AGRICULTURE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COURSE OFFERINGS

In their freshman year, the curriculum is designed to be exploratory, with students taking classes in agricultural mechanics, plant science, small and large animal science, and natural resources. Beginning in their sophomore year, students can choose classes each semester from the following career pathways:

Agriculture Mechanics involves the operation and maintenance of equipment used in landscaping and agricultural production. It also covers small engine repair and construction, system design, woodworking, masonry, outdoor construction, as well as basic plumbing and electrical skills related to agriculture.

Animal Science focuses on animal health, nutrition, livestock and horse production, as well as genetics and reproduction. It includes instruction in areas such as small animal care, pet grooming, veterinary services, and animal behavior.

Natural Resources explores forestry, wildlife conservation, land management, aquaculture, water resources, marine biology, and Long Island Sound studies. The curriculum also addresses economic and social issues related to the environment, such as the conservation of open space, farmland, energy resources, and human impact on the environment.

Plant Science covers the growth requirements of plants, including nutrition, management, pest control, and biotechnology. It also includes skills in floral design, landscape design, construction, and greenhouse crop production.

Career Preparation, Record-Keeping, and Leadership Development involves exploring agricultural career opportunities, resume writing, and job interview preparation. The course also covers record-keeping skills, leadership development, public speaking, parliamentary procedure, and interpersonal skills.
